NYC FC 1-0 Inter Miami

NYC FC finished their home opener against Inter Miami with a 1-0 win in the books.

It was a cold Bronx night for Inter Miami supporters after New York City FC pulled off a 1-0 win at Yankee Stadium last night.

NYC FC had a difficult start to their season after a 2-0 loss to Nashville SC in February, and a 1-1 draw against Chicago Fire last week. The underwhelming start to the season had many fans concerned as the club picked up a number of new signings in the off-season. The squad had a very different showing last night compared with their previous two matches. The result in the home opener will hopefully ease concerns from supporters.

A Night of Missed Opportunities

While NYC FC was able to pull off a result, it was far from a certain conclusion. In a ninety minute performance full of offsides calls, bookings, and missed goal scoring opportunities.

The last time Phil Neville’s Inter Miami side made the journey to New York it was in the Eastern Conference playoffs last autumn at Citi Field. The result in that game was decisive as NYC routed the Miami side 3-0. His crew were hoping to pull a result to uphold their honour last night, however after a disallowed goal to each side due to offsides decisions, it was NYC that would send his side packing back to Florida.

The sole goal of the match was an Own Goal awarded against Miami defender Christoper McVey. While Nick Cushing’s New York Side game out with a win in the books, it was far from certain. Hesitation would be a running concern throughout the game ultimately costing the NYC squad a number of goal opportunities. The teams defense held and pulled off a clean sheet, anchored by goalkeeper Luis Barraza whose three saves proved vital in foiled Miami’s attacks.

NYC FC hosts DC United next week on March 18th. With their first win secured, NYC Supporters are anxious to see the team return to the standards they set last season and pull off another win.
